The inspiration for this site was a mixture of positive and negative web experiences.

The positives were an appreciation of how much material was available on the web.

The negatives were the randomness of both the information and its accuracy.

Poetry is one of the unheralded successes on the web - so much is available - but so often its' presentation is marred by flashing banners and the like, so my first criteria was to present the poems in as simple a format as possible.

But I also wanted to contribute some information about the poems, often just a date and collection reference.

That became the base layout for the site, which I also wanted to be one where the reader could flick from poem to prose to criticism or even a screenplay passage or biographical detail, along with a relatively few images.

So I chose to keep the same menu on each page, making every page of the site as accessible as possible, without unecessary visual clutter.

To distinguish the sections I have used a different banner colour and small image, but have retained the same look otherwise.

I hope it works.
